Rows Garden 109 Harder — Solution
Rows Garden 109 Easier — Solution
Well, the Meta-Contest release went off on Sunday, and I hope you’re all enjoying the puzzles so far. Based on test-solver feedback, I anticipated the Final Answer being a fight for most. If you’re struggling, that’s okay — keep at it! I will announce that the first correct submission came in at around 10:30 PM CST, approximately six and a half hours after the release of the contest. That talented solver is Jon Olsen of New York, who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in person (and being Saturday night games partner) at the last few American Crossword Puzzle Tournaments. Congratulations, Jon! Aside from being entered into the Grand Prize drawing, he’s guaranteed a First Prize. But there’s still three other lucky winners to be drawn from the rest of the correct submissions, so get your answers in! Thanks to all for making the contest a success — over 130 entrants as of Monday.
Some other contest-related announcements: The contest will remain open until the beginning of March, so feel free to direct other interested solvers to the contest. Following the end of the contest, the puzzles will be available to purchase at a discounted rate (though there will be no prizes awarded). Also, the deadline to purchase books in addition to the contest will be the end of January. Books already purchased are slated to be mailed out later this week, so expect those to arrive in the mail shortly.
Enjoy the Rows Garden this week!

Congratulations, Jon! Definite nice guy that I met at the ACPT as well.
Looking forward to getting to the Meta-Contest myself.
I am so lost on the meta-contest! Got the puzzles done, and a few (I think) of the key answers correct. Really enjoyed the cryptic. Got the HEX “Atlantic Variety Cryptic” book from Amazon last week and been working my way through it, slowly!
Thanks for the heads-up on the difficulty of the final answer. Fun so far -solved all the puzzles, most of the key answers and am totally scratching my head on the directions. I’ll keep plugging away. Like DB, I enjoyed the cryptic; just the right difficulty level for me.
Loved the cryptic also! There’s a real shortage of variety cryptics out there. If you ever want to publish a book of them, I’m buying!
