I meant to mention this previously, but I wanted to plug Merl Reagle’s latest adventure, a crossword contest put on to benefit Alzheimer’s called The National Brain Game Challenge. You still have until 2 PM Tuesday to submit a correct answer, and prizes are given for various entrants who submit a correct answer. I had a chance to do the four puzzles on Sunday and was pleasantly amused. I’ll have a full wrap up next week (after the contest is officially over) and go over a play-by-play of the experience.

Busy sporting week upcoming for Aries Puzzles-land. I have yet to attend a Twins game at the brand new, state-of-the-art Target Field and jumped on the chance to buy some tickets back in March for this Wednesday. The thing is, back then the Twins were coming off another division title and had a lot of hope heading into this season, which has turned out to be perhaps the worst season in club history, as they are rapidly nearing 100 losses. The 65 dollars per ticket I plunked down six months ago have plummeted in value (they’re playing the equally pitiful Seattle Mariners), and even better, rain is in the forecast for Wednesday! Where’s the Metrodome when you need it…

And on Saturday I’ll be attending the highly anticipated University of Minnesota Golden Gophers-North Dakota State Bison football matchup at TCF Bank Stadium. The Gopher football program has fallen on hard times, to say the least, over the last five years or so, but I am looking forward to spending time with my dad watching the game. If memory serves correctly, the last two Gopher football games I attended were some of the worst sporting events I’ve ever witnessed in person, so I know it can’t get much worse!

The photo above was taken at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park along the North Shore of Lake Superior. I camped there with a buddy of mine over the weekend and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Aside from touring the picturesque lighthouse and surrounding areas, we hiked the Gooseberry Falls trail, hunted for Lake Superior agates, and I made my first foray into geocaching, a fun little venture that I could definitely get into. We also went through Duluth, a great little city that puts my current town of St. Cloud to shame. All in all, a wonderful weekend!
